"He whom you cannot teach to fly, teach to fall faster." -Nietsche

Sunday, November 20, 2005

Just when I get one car repair done, a radiator hope bursts. Oh, well, at least this is one I've done before.

Friday, October 21, 2005

After more than 20 years of riding bikes, I just changed my own tire for the first time. I'm such a man! Now I have to cook dinner.

Saturday, October 08, 2005

It's such a beautiful night. I'm walking three miles to pick up my car. It'll give me time to do some thinking.

Saturday, October 01, 2005

Bowling: 102, 118, 102. Not bad considering I haven't bowled in a long time.

Friday, September 30, 2005

No kid tonight! So what are we doing? Bowling. We're party animals! Somebody stop us!

Saturday, September 10, 2005

First decent ride on the new bike last night. After that too-small mountain bike, it was like flying!

Sunday, September 04, 2005

Dave Shembry. Remember the name. Phenomenal blues harmonica.

Sunday might blues jam at a local biker bar. Great stuff, especially an Aussie harp player who's tearin' it up.

March of the Penguins was pretty good. My son enjoyed it, though he was upset by some of the sadder scenes.

Saturday, September 03, 2005

Planning to see March of the Penguins tonight. Will report later.

Friday, August 19, 2005

On the other hand, we had an ultrasound today, and our little one to be is a strong, healthy little boy!

Out of gas. Lovely. I guess this'll be a longer lunch break than I planned. I'm missing my son's school open house, too. Grrrr.

Thursday, August 18, 2005

Just bought my ticket for the Tulsa Overground film festival this Saturday. Details.

Friday, August 12, 2005

Tonight is the staff picnic for the library, at the Drillers' baseball game.

Thursday, August 11, 2005

Unhappy today. Lonely a little, I guess, the way you can be even surrounded by people. Out of touch and socially inept.

Saturday, August 06, 2005

I finally replaced my bike with a good used road model, a Lotus. Since I rode a Ferrari in HS, I've got some bragging rights. :-)

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

I always know it's back to school time when I start to see naked ladies in people's yards.

Thursday, July 28, 2005

Too much input today. My eyes are throbbing from staring at computers all day, except on my breaks, when I was reading instead.

Sunday, July 17, 2005

Saw Colin Hay, frmrly. of Men At Work, in concert tonight. The show was ruined by some backup singer chick who kept upstaging him.

Thursday, July 14, 2005

Serious thunderstorms outside Limon. Quite a show!

On my way to Denver from Tulsa for vacation. Just bought some of the world's best beef jerky at Pat's in Liebenthal, Kansas.

Monday, July 04, 2005

We just wrapped 50,000 miles on the Mitsubishi. My life is a series of insignificant milestones. Well, except for that baby thing.

Monday, June 27, 2005

WE'RE GONNA HAVE A BABY!!! Due in mid-January. Yay!

Saturday, June 25, 2005

Sunday, June 12, 2005

We remain the same until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change.

Thursday, June 09, 2005

My son just graduated from preschool tonight. I'm so proud!

Monday, June 06, 2005

If you aren't watching Hell's Kitchen, turn it on now.

Saturday, June 04, 2005

Hey, we lost power. Half of Tulsa, evidently. What fun!

Wednesday, May 25, 2005

Oh, man! Danger Mouse will be released on Region 1 DVD for the first time this weekend! This makes me disturbingly happy.

Tuesday, May 24, 2005

@?&*%!! Less than 2 miles into my bike ride and my back wheel starts wobbling. I think the bloody bearing went out.

Let's hear it for real bipartisan compromise in the Senate!

Friday, May 20, 2005

I was just thinking I could use a little snack & found donuts in the kitchen. Now I'm thinking I could use a little money...

You know what would be a great pornstar name? Paris Econolodge.

Saturday, May 14, 2005

It's a beautiful day at the park.

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Tonight the "young families" group from church went to Incredible Pizza for food, games & bowling. Good times were had by all.

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

So much for choosing an African or Latino.

Oh, boy! Nazi Pope!

Friday, April 15, 2005

I have succumbed to the lure of the dark (chocolate) side of the force, and it tastes GOOD!

I just gave blood for the first time in ten years. I feel a great joy.

Tonight we have a special guest at my church: a Swiss yodeling choir complete with alphorn. Magnificent.

Saturday, April 02, 2005

Such a beautiful day today. Just right for a trip to the zoo.

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

I'm being followed around town by Chrysler 300s. Should I be scared?

Friday, March 18, 2005

I saw Napoleon Dynamite last night & hated it. I found him unlikeable because he was all the things I hate in myself.

Thursday, March 17, 2005

We just left my son's parent/teacher conference. His teacher told us he wants to be a librarian when he grows up!

Sunday, March 06, 2005

NPR just played an instrumental of the Beatles' "Martha My Dear" to cap a story about Martha Stewart's prison release. Nice touch.

Thursday, March 03, 2005

"I am like East Berlin. I have this wall, & what I know about the freeworld is I can see their fireworks & I can hear their radio."

Wednesday, March 02, 2005

Alright Topeka! Told Fred *ptui* Phelps to stick it in his hateful little ear. Almost makes up for the evolution debacle.

My favorite word is "interstices". I love the way it feels on the tongue, and it's uncommon enough that it's always a surprise.

We get to go to the circus today! Unless I'm mistaken, this will be the first time I've ever been to one. I know it's my son's 1st.

Kim has a handbell festival today. We dropped her off downtown, and it's gonna be a boys' day. We're starting out at the park.

Saturday, February 26, 2005

This afternoon was the handbell concert. What an amazing experience. 400 ringers all playing at once is incredibly humbling.

Friday, February 25, 2005

Had a small dinner party with a colleague and his family tonight. A lovely evening. We need to do this more often.

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm talking to myself. Do me a favor. If you are reading this right now, leave me a comment. Topic: fish

Thursday, February 24, 2005

Just saw my first daffodil of the year. Spring is coming, ready or not.

Wednesday, February 23, 2005

Yesterday I recieved a shipment of Ubuntu Linux CDs. It's a free distro that can run from CD or be installed. I'm very impressed!

Tuesday, February 22, 2005

Today was great. Kim worked, but I didn't, so I hung out with my son all day. Saw Racing Stripes, and it was pretty good.

Sunday, February 20, 2005

So, the billboard has a big pic of a Filet-o-fish sandwich and says, "I can almost hear the ocean." How dumb do they think we are?

Friday, February 18, 2005

I just finished watching Whale Rider. God, what a wonderful film!

I was born exactly 33 years and 4 months ago today. I'm officially an L.P.!

Earworm: "Pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' 'bout half past dead..."

Thursday, February 17, 2005

Last night Ch. 8 had "Are the End Times Near?" on regular broadcast news! I was so mad I could spit.

Wednesday, February 16, 2005

Just watched Super Size Me. If you haven't seen it yet, do. Even if you don't, please reconsider eating fast food, for all our sake

Tuesday, February 15, 2005

Well, I don't know what exactly is going on here, but something is getting messed up between my cellphone and my blog. It's always been the case that an entry I e-mailed from my phone would appear in the blog within half an hour or so. The recent spate of posts are items that either never came through, or came through long after they were sent (in one case, they came out of order!)

I'll be watching more closely over the next few weeks to see if the problem clears up (and if any of my stray e-mails appear as duplicate posts). Sorry for the big dump.

[2/15/2005] I slept almost 11 hours last night and I still feel like an elephant sat on me. I'm definitely getting sick.

Sunday, February 13, 2005

[2/13/2005] I just finished reading The Known World by Edward P. Jones, the book that all Tulsa's supposed to be reading. Extraordinary.

Friday, February 11, 2005

[2/11/2005] Went bowling tonight with some folks from church. Didn't score very well (92, 100, 88) but the company was great!

[2/11/2005] RIP Arthur Miller

Thursday, February 10, 2005

[2/10/2005] This has been a crazy week. On top of my regular work, I've taken two classes, taught one, and hosted two other programs. Whew!

Saturday, February 05, 2005

Today I an in dire need of a dandelion patch.
