Tonight I watched The 7 ...

Tonight I watched The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao featuring Tony Randall in all of the title roles. What an odd, touching movie!

I used to watch that movie pretty regular after I discovered it, probably around age 9. My sense of humor encouraged me to memorize the little speech at the end so that I could deliver it to other children when they were frustrated. Most kids did not find that anywhere near as funny as me, and mostly thought I was teasing them somehow.

The funniest thing to me when Joel Hodgson left Mystery Science Theater 3000 was that his parting letter to the robots was the very same speech..."Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand. Every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, you're part of the Circus of Dr. Lao."

and the robots said, "Joel, who's Dr. Lao?"
