GraphJam accepted my flow chart!
For those not familiar, GraphJam is a lolcat-derived site that takes various memes (mostly song lyrics) and plots them as graphs and charts of various kinds.
To vote on my offering, go to http://graphjam.com/vote/ and scroll through the pages until you find the one called "Love". Thanks!

In Memoriam
It's been a long time since I thought much about the fallen on a Memorial Day. Today, though, BB went with the scouts to a local cemetery to participate in an event called the Avenue of Flags. The park was decorated with what must have been hundreds of American flags, and after a brief ceremony, the scouts struck them all in about 45 minutes. Each flag had been donated by a servicemember's family, and was tagged with his or her name and dates of birth and death. It was a sobering day, but I'm glad we got to be a part of it.

Family Visit
Kim's brother and his wife and son are down from Kansas City and staying with Kim's dad and stepmom. We're hanging out over there for the evening.

Farewell
As we're enjoying our new vehicle, I want to take a moment to elegize the one it's replacing. This '94 Pontiac Sunbird was given to us by a co-worker about 5 years ago, as a gift. It had a blown head gasket and, as it turned out, a warped head. We put about $1,500 into it, and it's served us awfully well. It will be missed.

Welcome Big Blue
I haven't wanted to say anything for fear I'd jinx it, but we have a minivan! Kim's folks found it for us at a dealership in Topeka and they drove it down to us last night. It's an '05 Chrysler Town and Country Touring with very low miles and all the options we were looking for. We've been hunting for awhile, and we're very excited!

The Zoo Revisited
Kim and the kiddos, taken by one of my colleagues at the zoo summer reading event. So cute!

A Stroll Around The Neighborhood
I put TS in the frontpack this evening for a 30-minute walk. She fussed a lot going in, but seemed to enjoy the experience once we got moving.

Buggy at the zoo
Today was the kickoff for the library Summer Reading Program, held at the zoo this year. In keeping with our kids' theme of "Catch the Reading Bug" (and the teens' complementary "Metamorphosis" theme) the zoo did some insect displays, including an opportunity to pet a giant cockroach!

Bowling night
This was LB's first time at a real bowling alley. I think he did a great job, given his age.

Xylophones
Earlier today, we had to bring BB his backpack at school. The music teacher let LB play with the Orff instruments.

Watch your step!
BB and LB went for a walk with me around the complex tonight. I carried TS. The storm rolling in along with the lateness of the hour created this weird light.

Blood Drive
People think I'm crazy, but one of the most satisfying things I do on a regular basis is donate blood. A tiny amount of pain and an hour of your time provide so much to people who need it.

Motorvatin'
Not sure if LB's doing Peter Fonda or Dennis Hopper here. What do you think?

London Bridge?
Not sure what's happening here. They might be playing together or they might be fighting over a toy.

On Deck
Here's a photo my mother-in-law took when they came to visit last month. More to come shortly.

Oh, Dewey!
Laura Raphael was a real trouper tonight. After the tornado warning was over, she still went on stage and did a marvelous job with her one-woman show about the wonders of the Dewey Decimal System. Don't laugh. It was wonderful!

Tornado Warning
I came back to the library for a program tonight, and just as it was about to begin, the sirens went off and we had to take cover.

Exercise
After dropping BB off at school today, I took the little ones for a walk around the Promenade Mall. 30 brisk minutes followed by some playtime for LB made for a very nice morning.
Locals: if you're home at noontime today, turn on Channel 6. I'll be on talking to Glenda Silvey about books and the Young People's Creative Writing Contest.

Kicking Off National Bike Month
Today was my first bike commute of the year. I tried out my backstreet route and made it to work in 35 minutes. Coming home I made a wrong turn and also had some headwind and traffic, but it was still about the same. Maybe it's downhill? Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and I can't wait for the next one!

Socks are Done!
They're definitely too short, and I'd use smaller needles with this yarn if I did it again, but I've finished them!

Big Step
BB has been taking the bus home for a few weeks now. Today I walked to the stop to bring him home. It's only a few blocks, and he's angling to be allowed to walk home on his own! I'm not sure we're ready for that yet, but it's coming.

Home Stretch
I had hoped to complete my socks tonight, but I'm falling asleep in my chair. Guess it'll have to be tomorrow.
