Getting plastered

The Wife and I worked together tonight to make a plaster cast of TS's current abode. I've been prohibited from posting any pix of the process, but here's a shot of the final product.

I'm in a continuing ed class where we're learning how to use gaming consoles for library programs. Two of my colleagues are showing off their DDR moves.

Does Anything Eat Wasps?

I've been enjoying this collection of science Q&As from the New Scientist magazine's column "The Last Word". Readers send in questions and other readers respond. It's been reminding me again how much I liked science when I was younger. It's great to recapture that sense of wonder.

The kids' table

There's a new sandwich franchise in town, just around the corner from our apartment, called Which Wich. They have a little section of kid-size tables. It's a pretty neat place! Kim took the picture.

Holidays

LB is very proud of his Thanksgiving card from the Springfield grandparents.

A colorful problem

Honestly, parents, if your little one has to color on the shelves to keep quiet, we'd rather the tyke run around and scream. At least it was just crayon. Could have been permanent marker, I suppose.

Holiday weekend

This is what our bookdrop looks like 27 hours after we closed on Saturday.

Third place

BB's team washed out in third on another shootout. An excellent finish for the team's first year!

First loss

The game was scoreless, so we went to a shootout, which we tied 2-2! A second sudden-death shootout went to our opponent on their fifth player. A very hard-fought contest.

More soccer

Tourney is double-elimination. We're about to play the only other undefeated team, but there could be as many as five more games before the winner is decided. It'll be a long day!

Birthday (again)

BB had some friends and family for his birthday party at Incredible Pizza tonight. Here he and his cousin are getting ready to drive the big rig.

Tourney part 2

BB's second game was also a win, 1-0 this time. Tomorrow morning the Strikers face the only team they lost to in the regular season. Wish us luck!

Soccer tournament

BB's team won 2-0 in a shootout in the first game. Next one at 2:30.

Note that Earth has a secondary liquid core surrounding the solid center. Technically the Mars core should have been red icing, because it's liquid.

Nostalgia

The LPI scientist at our workshop is Dr. Tomasz Stepinski, who works on computer modeling. Currently he's working on an A.I. that will catalog all of the large and small impact craters on the Martian surface. Listening to him speak brings me back to high school chemistry. Tom is originally from Poland, and my chem teacher was from Iran, but hearing scientific concepts explained in a strong non-Midwestern accent makes me remember his lectures.

Warning: Science Content

I'm at the first day of a two-day workshop on Mars put on by the Lunar and Planetary Institute. It's for librarians and teachers to take programming and activities back to our patrons. After the break we'll be doing some experiments!

Exercise

I cycled to work this morning, a very chilly, yet brief ride. 4.3 miles in 15 minutes. After work I'll ride to church, and then home at the end of choir rehearsal.
