Another Sign Of Aging

Those two girls facing away from the camera? They were in the first Cherub Choir I directed. Today they take first communion! Time marches on.

Remember, and keep it holy

Today:

Arrive church 7:30 to start coffee. Sing with choir twice in first service, slipping out to make sure coffee is getting done in between. Start youth Sunday school class, but leave after 15 minutes for warm-up bell rehearsal. Stay through first half of second service to ring bells. Leave after bell anthem to grab quick lunch on my way to work. Work from 12:30 to 5 at library. Obtain dinner and return to church for 6:50 bell rehearsal.

"And on the seventh day, he rested."

Deconstruction

Inspired by the "Thrifty Knitters" group on Ravelry, I've been shopping thrift stores for sweaters I can unravel for their yarn. This is my first such project at three stages. Underneath is the front of a v-neck lambswool sweater I picked up at Salvation Army for . In the middle is the yarn from one sleeve, frogged onto a homemade "niddy-noddy" of PVC pipe. On the right is a skein of yarn ready to be washed and hung up to get the kinks out. If all goes well, I should get several pairs of nice wool socks out of the deal!

School Program

BB's school had an Asian festival tonight. He sang and played Orff instruments. Other classes danced, told stories, jumped rope, and other things. It was a very fun evening.

Easter Dress

Here's TS in her first Easter dress. My dad always said that Easter was the only time he regretted having only boys. Now I see what he meant.

In Your Easter Bonnet...

"...with all the frills upon it, you'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade!". The bonnet and sweater were worn by my mother and her sister. TS is also wearing shoes that Kim wore as a baby.

Thrasher

This is my 8-year-old son, headbanging and playing air guitar to Guns 'n Roses' "It's So Easy." Good Lord, how that makes me feel old. Once a week in high school I'd eat at Taco Villa in Topeka, and I would always play that song on the jukebox. I thought I was being subversive because it had bad words in it.

Kim just sent me this pic of TS. They went to Woodward Park for a picnic today. She says, "I love the outdoors."

Scarves Done

The scarves I've been knitting for my mother and aunt are complete! I decided they look better without fringe.

I been sick...

Sorry I haven't posted in a week or so. There's been a lot going on, and not all of it good. We had a financial setback that had us worried for awhile, then the kids started getting sick, which eventually hit me. It's been a rough patch, but we're getting through!

On Wednesday I took a cue from the Thrifty Knitters' group on Ravelry and went thrifting for sweaters. At the Salvation Army I found a beautiful chunky wool in a two-tone grey and a natural-colored wool in fingering weight, each for $2! I'll wear the grey (it's just my size), but the other is way too big for my current svelte figure, and I'm going to pull it apart for the yarn. It ought to make several pair of very nice socks!

Yesterday I took the kids to a nearby park for a walk and some playtime. I thought it would be nice to park at one end, walk to the playground (about a quarter mile), and then walk back. I brought umbrellas since the sky was threatening, but managed to forget the diaper bag. Uh-oh. Sebastian had a major accident just as we reached the playground, and by the time we got back to the car, the situation was ugly. Still, it was a nice walk, and we didn't get rained on! :-)

A wonderful co-worker who spins gave me this assortment of yarns today. All are wool/alpaca/silk blends. Yummy!
