The Swatch And Mistake Conglomeration

This is a project that's been growing for quite awhile. After my first reading of Debbie New's Unexpected Knitting I began collecting swatches and false starts from all of my projects and putting them together. This is the result so far.

Yes, that's a sock on the right. My very first one that couldn't possibly fit anyone. I have a collection of swatches waiting to be used. I haven't decided yet whether to add onto this or start a second one. Maybe there should be a series!

Day At The Park

Since I have Presidents Day off, the boys and I went to the park. It was windy, but not too cold, and they had a great time.

New Project

I'm making a pair of matching scarves for my mom and aunt. It's my first try at colorwork, and I was concerned about trying to do intarsia or fair isle with no "wrong side". I borrowed an idea from Debbie New in her book Unexpected Knitting. Rather than starting with a cast-on edge, I began with a single slipknot at the corner and made a triangle with increases on every row. Once I finished one color repeat, I began decreasing on WS rows, so it turned the corner and began to make a rectangle. Since I want the scarves to match, I decided to make both at the same time on one circular needle.

New Hat

I made this for BB. It starts with a 6-stitch medallion, and I worked it down from there on two circulars. That's a new technique for me, and I really enjoyed it. The hat fits me perfectly, but is a little loose on him. It seems okay with the rib turned up, but he could be happier.

Blasted

To me, it looks like somebody filled the hollow of the tree with explosives. It's hard to comprehend that it's all down to a steady accumulation of little drops of freezing water.
